Vienna Acoustic Diaries: The Vienna Acoustic Diaries represent the true diversity of the Viennese music scene and bring out the artistic qualities of the musicians involved. The multidisciplinary and innovative ensemble consists of musicians from different cultural backgrounds with one common goal: to overcome clichés and exoticism and to break down hierarchies. Diversity is often reduced to entertainment purposes in the music industry. Artists with “exotic” instruments and sounds rarely feel sufficiently taken seriously and respected. The self confident members of the Vienna Acoustic Diaries want to change this and open the eyes and ears of the audience: to the many varieties and the rich potential of music in 21st-century Vienna. The ensemble was founded by Iranian-Austrian guitarist Mahan Mirarab. The members of the Vienna Acoustic Diaries are active in classical, jazz, and improvisational music in this Austria and internationally. They have training in classical Arabic, European, Iranian, Kurdish, and Turkish music, as well as jazz and folk and traditional music from different regions. The ensemble is also open to accepting additional artists from other musical genres; they can add new chapters to the Vienna Acoustic Diaries with their identities, sounds, and stories.
