Basma Jabr

Basma Jabr was born in Kuwait and grew up in Syria. Since 2014, she has been living in Vienna, Austria, where her musical experience was influenced and reshaped by many different colours and trends. 

In 2014, Basma moved to Austria. Within a short period of time, after numerous recordings and live performances, she found her own place within the Austrian music scene.

Besides her musical work as a singer in different groups, Basma also contributed to theatre plays and music films on an international scale. 

She now studies “Vocals in Popular Music” at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. 

Over the years, Basma has presented her interpretation of Arabic musical traditions in her own unique way. Sometimes classic and purely traditional but never without incorporating the details and richness of her experiences.

Mixed with the spirit of jazz music and in a contemporary way, her music has its own character with a special touch.

 Throughout the years, she developed a unique musical understanding, which can be heard in her voice and music.

Her music is a mixture of all her musical experiences; a mix of charm and authenticity of the richly detailed Arabic music, as well as the various “maqams” she grew up with. 

Working with contemporary and western music, as well as the exchange with musicians* and composers* from different musical backgrounds characterize her creative work to this day.
